Some assistive software is available for use on campus via the University Network. This comprises of TextHelp Read and Write Gold 10, and Mind Genius 5. Information on more general mobile technology can be found at For instance, ‘About UoB’ is a free app for most smartphones which provides access to university maps, systems news and more. Use of ‘Blackboard Mobile Learn’ is also encouraged.

The university library makes certain accommodations for disabled students where applicable, such as: a named disability contact, extended library loans and higher book loan limit, 1:1 orientation, assistance in gaining texts in alternative formats, borrowing by proxy, use of Reserve and Collect facility, separate study cubicle use (bookable).

If a student is on a programme that includes work-based placements, the Disability Service will liaise with the student and the staff in their school and advise them about adjustments or access on placement. Staff in the school will draw up a Placement Support Agreement (PSA) which will be sent to the placement provider.
